An extremely rare and interesting Cilician hemiobol
Lot 458
CILICIA. Uncertain. 4th century BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 8 mm, 0.31 g, 10 h). Male deity seated to left on throne flanked by two sphinxes. Rev. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet; all within shallow incuse square. SNG Levante -, cf. 255. SNG Paris -. Extremely rare and interesting. Nearly extremely fine.

The Levante coin is somewhat similar in that it shows Aphrodite seated to the left on a throne flanked by two sphinxes. However, our example differs quite significantly in showing a bearded male on the throne, and in having Athena instead of Hermes as a reverse type
